Ontario Ombudsman Reminds Service Providers Under CYFSA of their Obligations

Beginning May 1, 2019, the Ontario Ombudsman’s Children and Youth Unit started receiving complaints about services to children and youth under the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, 2017. This expanded mandate was a result of legislative changes adopted in December 2018 that transferred the investigative functions of the former Ontario Child Advocate to the Ontario Ombudsman.

Claiming Privilege in the Public Sector

On April 25, 2019, the OBA’s Public Sector Lawyers section hosted a panel entitled “Claiming Privilege in the Public Sector". The three-person panel provided a refresher on the principles of solicitor-client and litigation privilege and explored the application of privilege to privacy, how to manage privilege within a crown corporation or agency, and the interplay between privilege and Cabinet privilege and Parliamentary procedures.
