On May 1, 2019, the OBA Public Sector Lawyers Section, together with 60 attendees, honoured Richard Steinecke, the recipient of the 2019 Tom Marshall Award. Guests included members of the Bar, staff of regulatory bodies who have worked with Richard over the years, Richard’s family, and members of the OBA Public Sector Lawyers Executive.
The award is named for Tom Marshall, in recognition of excellence and dedication in public sector lawyering. Mr. Marshall served as Counsel with the Crown Law Office – Civil for more than 30 years. He also served as OBA President from 2000-2001. Criteria for the award include:
- outstanding mentorship contributions to public sector lawyers by sharing knowledge, experience, skill, and commitment with both licensing candidates and/or lawyers;
- significant legal contribution in the development of public policy and legislation; and
- important contributions to the development of public sector legal practice, through scholarly or other writings and speaking commitments.
