On May 16, 2024, the OBA’s Young Lawyer’s Central Division hosted its annual Young Lawyers Gala, bringing together a hundred of next generation of legal leaders and influencers in the practice and business of law in Ontario. It was a heart touching evening with keynote address from The Honourable Mahmud Jamal, and acceptance speech from our Heather McArthur Memorial Young Lawyers Award recipient, Sahil Shoor.

On May 8, 2024, OBA Information Technology and Intellectual Property Law Section proudly presented the Rising Star Award to three of our award winners, Veronica Tsou (2022), Lisa Danay Wallace (2023) and Tamara Celine Winegust (2024). We are glad to host this inaugural award ceremony at the OBA Conference Centre.

On February 26, 2024, OBA celebrates the Black History Month in partnering with CABL as we pay tribute to the contribution of Black lawyers in Canada. The night was elevated by the great jerk food, transcendent musical beats, carnival costumes, and everyone’s laughter.

On November 16 OBA welcomed SABA to celebrate Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas. Surrounding by beautiful lights and amazing food lawyers shared sweets, stories and an amazing evening.

On November 9, the OBA Alternative Dispute Resolution Section proudly presented the OBA Alternative Dispute Resolution Award of Excellence to Bernard Morrow in front of colleagues, friends and family who turned out to celebrate a career of impact at the OBA Conference Centre.

The Award of Excellence in Civil Litigation brings together the civil bar to celebrate a colleague who exemplifies the highest standards of the profession. On Thursday, November 9, the Ontario Bar Association honoured Linda Plumpton, partner at Torys, at the Ritz-Carlton in Toronto.

On October 17th, the family law bar came together at the beautiful Arcadian Court to celebrate the life, humour and career of Brenda Christen.

On October 5th, the OBA Insurance Law Section proudly presented the OBA Award for Excellence in Insurance Law to Deborah Berlach and Barbara Legate. Surrounded by family, colleagues and friends it was a celebratory evening at the OBA Conference Centre honouring two very distinguished women in the profession.

On Thursday, June 8, the legal community gathered at the King Edward Hotel in downtown Toronto to honour the legacy of retired Supreme Court Justice Michael Moldaver and to celebrate the appointment of Justice Michelle O’Bonsawin.
