The Justice Services Online (“JSO”) Court Case Search Tool (“Tool”) has been expanded to include certain Ontario Court of Justice (“OCJ”) criminal court case information, effective March 21, 2022.

The Ontario Superior Court of Justice has released a Notice to the Profession and Public, announcing an extension of the temporary adjustments to its operations announced on December 17, 2021, until February 28, 2022.

The Ministry of the Attorney General’s Recovery Secretariat has received a number of inquiries regarding the courthouse active screening tool, new provincial isolation requirements, and requests for N95 masks and Rapid Antigen Tests.  In response, the Recovery Secretariat has asked the OBA to share the following information on their behalf.

As you know, a few weeks ago the COVID-19 Omicron variant was identified in Ontario. We are writing today with an update about this new variant, and what you should do to protect yourselves and others – particularly as we head into the winter holiday season.

On Thursday, October 15, the province launched a COVID-19 Vaccine Certificate Verification App (the “App”).  The App, for businesses and organizations, will make it easier, more secure and more convenient for individuals to provide proof of vaccination status when required.  Individuals will now be able to download an enhanced vaccine certificate, which will include a QR code that the App will be able to scan to confirm vaccination status.  For more information on the App and how to download your new enhanced vaccine certificates, please visit the Government of Ontario website.

MAG has advised that they have been notified that a person has tested positive for COVID-19. The following are the pertinent details known to MAG at this time, the individual was last physically present in the Cornwall Courthouse on December 22, 2021.  They were tested on December 23, 2021.

The Government of Ontario has made regulatory amendments under the Business Corporations Act, Corporations Act, Co-operative Corporations Act and Condominium Act, 1998 and a new regulation under the Not-for-Profit Corporations Act that extend the effective period of temporary legislative provisions permitting corporations governed under these statutes to call and hold meetings virtually, as applicable, notwithstanding certain restrictions or requirements. The effective period of these temporary legislative provisions has now been extended to end on September 30, 2022. Over the course of the pandemic, the OBA has consistently advocated for the government to ensure that rules and regulations governing required meetings be amended to allow meetings to proceed virtually. This latest announcement is consistent with the OBA’s efforts.
