Landlord and Tenant Board – Practice Direction for LSO Licensees

Effective January 1, 2025, all LSO licensees (lawyers and paralegals) must use the Tribunals Ontario Portal (TOP), the Landlord and Tenant Board’s case management system, to access any file-related documents, and to submit certain documents for all proceedings where they are representing a party or where the licensee is a party to the proceeding.

OBA Notwithstanding Clause Education & Policy Summit

The OBA’s Notwithstanding Clause (“NWC”) Summit will be held on December 9, 2024. The program will explore developing trends in the use of the NWC and the development of a set of guideposts for future use. Join us to hear insights from expert panels, and to participate in breakout discussions designed to surface the legal principles that can be brought to bear when assessing the use of the NWC.

LSO Governance Changes

The OBA will be providing a submission to outline serious concerns with the proposed governance changes to Convocation, the primary concern being the reduction of elected lawyers on Convocation to less than 50%.

Courts Digital Transformation Update and Sign Ups

Phase 1 of the Courts Digital Transformation will launch in Summer 2025 in the Toronto region. The new digital justice solution will be implemented over the coming years and will replace the existing Justice Services Online platform.
