The OBA provided a submission to the Standing Committee on the Legislative Assembly on Bill 245, Accelerating Access to Justice Act, 2021 (Schedule 3).

The OBA sent a letter to the Solicitor General and the Attorney General outlining concerns about the Covid-19 situation in Ontario’s correctional facilities, and providing recommendations on steps to be taken to ameliorate same.

The OBA made a submission to the Ontario Land Tribunal on their proposed Draft New Rules to harmonize the practices and procedures in a proceeding before any Tribunal within Ontario Land Tribunals.

The OBA made a submission to the Office of the Assistant Deputy Attorney General on the definition of “child” under the Children’s Law Reform Act.

The OBA made a submission to the Motions to Change Working Group outlining nine recommendations to improve the Motion to Change process under the Family Law Rules.

The OBA sought to amend the Lawyers Annual Report to include Charity and Not For Profit Law as a discrete area of practice so that lawyers practicing in this area could more accurately reflect their area of practice.

The OBA sought to amend the Personal Property Security Act (PPSA) to clarify issues with respect to the Purchase Money Security Interest (PMSI) regime. The existing regime can result in confusions making them a relatively ineffective security. This also can lead to unnecessarily complex situations causing accounting issues and uncertainty in the correct allocation of payments to creditors. This proposal seeks to amend the PPSA to clarify these issues.

The OBA provided feedback on the experience our members have had with electronic hearings including advocating for an expansion of the use of videoconference as well as continued dialogue to develop best practices and guidelines.

OBA Submission to the Law Society of Ontario re: Family Legal Services Provider Licence The OBA provided this submission to the Law Society of Ontario in response to the LSO’s consultation on the Family Legal Services Provider Licence, which would permit paralegals to practice in certain areas of family law.

The OBA provided a submission to the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario on a guidance document relating to the supervisory approach to asset transfers under the Pension Benefits Act.
