Tell us about yourself.
I am a director and an associate corporate counsel in the Real Estate Group at Brookfield Asset Management. I'm responsible for corporate governance, compliance and secretarial matters and act as a legal resource on all corporate initiatives, including internal reorganizations, public and private securities offerings, debt financings, and other corporate transactions. I also assist with regulatory corporate compliance filings and oversee the global subsidiary legal management program.
Prior to my role at Brookfield, I practised in the Financial Services Group at Bennett Jones LLP focusing on corporate finance where I represented senior and subordinated lenders and borrowers in connection with domestic and Canadian-U.S. cross-border syndicated financings, asset-based loans, and debt restructurings.
I was called to the Ontario bar in 2014. I hold a Bachelor of Commerce in Real Estate and Urban Development from the University of British Columbia and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Toronto.
I am passionate about the advancement of diversity and inclusion in the legal profession especially for racialized women lawyers. As a director of the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers ("FACL"), I have worked tirelessly to spearhead initiatives to create a safe and inclusive community to share and build greater awareness of the issues, challenges, and opportunities facing racialized women legal professionals. This includes a podcast launching in 2020 which, among other things, highlights the successes of Asian women in law. I championed FACL’s student mentorship program and devote substantial time to mentorship of law school students at the University of Toronto.
