The Brown Bag Lunch for April was held on the 18th of the month. As usual, members of the Trusts and Estates Section gathered to share experiences and practice tips.
The meeting began with a reminder of the recent announcement that Howard Black will receive the 2023 Award of Excellence in Trusts and Estates. The Award will be presented at a dinner and reception on June 26. Congratulations to Howard!
BBLers discussed the new trust reporting requirements for bare trusts, and whether lawyers who assisted clients with bare trust arrangements in the past have a legal obligation to advise past clients of the new reporting requirements. Generally, attendees seemed to be of the view that lawyers are not obligated to contact every single past client for whom they have acted in these types of arrangements, although some members noted that if they happened to be speaking with one such client they would most likely mention it at that time.
