Your Section Executive has been hard at work this year. In this “Half-Term” Report, I highlight some of our work so far.
Outreach to the Public: Make a Will Month
Make a Will Month is an annual program that helps inform the public about importance of making a properly drafted will, as well as powers of attorney.
This past November, about 50 lawyers from our section presented at Make A Will Month sessions held at public libraries across the provinces. The sessions were led in 9 cities across Ontario, including Toronto, Ottawa, Mississauga, Waterloo, Thunder Bay, Chatham-Kent, Hamilton, Timmins and Sarnia. This year, the sessions drew a total of 1,849 attendees from the general public. This year’s Make a Will Month attracted great media attention online, in print, on the radio and on television.
Our presenters received wonderful feedback from the attendees and library staff. Thank you to all of the volunteer speakers and a special thank you to Kathryn Balter from the executive and Maritza Calle from the OBA for all of their work in putting together a very successful Make a Will Month.
