The OBA Public Sector Lawyers’ Section was pleased to host an informative seminar on accountability in the public sector. More particularly, Mary Dawson, the federal Ethics Commissioner, will guide us through the complexities of the federal conflict of interest regime for public office holders.

The Adjudicative Tribunals Accountability, Governance and Appointments Act (the Tribunals Act) was enacted in 2009 with a view to ensure that adjudicative tribunals are accountable, transparent and efficient in their operations while remaining independent in their decision-making.

Public sector lawyers typically have a wide variety of reporting relationships and accountabilities. In addition to their duties to their client agencies, ministries or other employers, many lawyers working in the public sector are also charged with promoting the "public interest."
