Most individuals spend a majority of their waking hours at work, where they are governed by employment laws (statutory or otherwise). With Canada’s unemployment rate at 5.3% as of December 2018, a 43-year low, there is no doubt that employment is a defining feature of many Canadians’ lives.
Perhaps due to the importance of employment law in daily life, many individuals are aware that they have certain legal rights and entitlements, particularly upon termination of employment. However, over time, a lot of misleading, inaccurate, or incomplete information has been disseminated. The goal of this article is to correct and clarify some of the most popular myths relating to termination of employment.
