On behalf of the 2018-2019 OBA Worker's Compensation Section Executive, it is my pleasure to welcome you to a new and exciting executive year!
This year we have many new members joining the Executive for the first time. We are excited to learn from these new perspectives and will keep the section apprised of new initiatives. Other OBA Members who are interested in joining the Executive may do so by contacting Maxine Pun at mpun@oba.org.
We are also looking forward to another comprehensive set of CPD sessions in 2018 and 2019.
On October 11th, Carole Prest, the Counsel to the Chair at the WSIAT, will be receiving the OBA Ron Ellis Award for Excellence in Workers’ Compensation Law in recognition of her long-service at the Tribunal and her significant contributions to the development of WSIAT jurisprudence. We hope you can join us for what will be a fun and inspiring evening. Information about the event can be found here.
On November 27th, we will hear from WSIAT adjudicators and staff about the many new initiatives taking place at the Tribunal. The session, A Comprehensive WSIAT Update will provide an interactive opportunity for representatives to provide feedback and learn best practices. Information about the event can be found here.
On February 7th, 2019, the Section will also be taking part in the OBA’s week-long Institute Program with a session entitled Chronic Mental Stress: Impact on Workplace Harassment Investigations, Litigation and Remedies. Learn about how the new coverage for chronic mental stress under the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, 1997 will impact existing legal practice relating to workplace investigations, dispute resolution and litigation. Detailed information about this program will be available soon.
And, of course, be sure to save the date for our popular annual conference taking place on May 15, 2019. More detailed information about the conference will be available in early 2019.
Finally, be sure to check our Section website regularly for important updates and summaries of significant decisions.
We look forward to a productive and collaborative year!
