The Supreme Court of Canada released its much awaited for decision in re Indalex on February 1, 2013.  Has the decision resolved all the issues that may arise when an insolvency employer has a pension plan with wind-up liability?

In Carrigan v. Carrigan Estate, the Ontario Court of Appeal rendered a decision on the mandatory spousal death benefit provisions under the Pension Benefits Act (Ontario) that surprised lawyers in the area of pensions, family law and estates law.

Pension reform continues to take centre stage in Ontario. In 2009 and 2010, the Ontario government introduced significant amendments to the Pension Benefits Act. In 2012, some of those amendments finally came into force. Many changes are still pending.

This session explores the ethical and professional issues that are often faced by pension and benefits practitioners in advising plan sponsors and administrators in connection with their obligations.
