The legal community came together on June 9 to celebrate outstanding members of the profession who have made exceptional contributions to the practice of law in Ontario and to the OBA. Over 20 awards were bestowed as this was the first OBA Awards Gala in three years, after the popular event was sidelined due to public health measures.

The OBA’s Supreme Evening brought together admiring members of the bench and bar to pay tribute to The Honourable Rosalie Abella and the Honourable Mahmud Jamal and celebrate “a passing of a precious baton from safe, strong hands to safe, strong hands.”

It was time for the YLD to once again get together IRL for their popular Annual Gala. With Keynote Addresses from The Honourable Avvy Yao-Yao Go, and The Honourable George Strathy, and a moving acceptance speech from our Heather McArthur Memorial Young Lawyers Award recipient.

On October 3rd, 2019, the OBA Labour & Employment Law Section proudly presented the OBA Randall Echlin Mentorship Award. to James K. McDonald. The event was held at the The Law Society of Ontario, Convocation Hall .

On November 4th, 2019, the OBA Workers' Compensation Law Section proudly presented the OBA Ron Ellis Award for Excellence in Workers’ Compensation to John Bartolomeo. The event was held at the OBA Conference Centre.

On October 29th, 2019, the OBA Alternative Dipsute Resolution Section proudly presented the OBA Alternative Dispute Resolution Award of Excellence to Elaine Newman. The event was held at the OBA Conference Centre.

The Award of Excellence in Civil Litigation brings together the civil bar to celebrate a colleague who has demonstrated the highest qualities of the profession. On Thursday, November 21, 2019 the Ontario Bar Association honoured Guy J. Pratte, Borden Ladner Gervais LLP at the Ritz-Carlton, Toronto.

On June 17th, 2019, the OBA Municipal Law Section proudly presented the OBA Award of Excellence in Municipal Law to Mary Ellen Bench. The event was held at Royal Canadian Military Institute.

On June May 29th, 2019, the OBA Constitutional, Civil Liberties and Human Rights Law Section proudly presented the OBA Award of Excellence in Constitutional, Civil Liberties and Human Rights Law to Lisa Brownstone. The event was held at Twenty Toronto Street Conferences and Events.

On June 13th, 2019, the OBA Pensions and Benefits Law Section proudly presented the OBA Award for Excellence in Pensions & Benefits Law to Mitch Frazer. The event was held at Cluny Bistro.
