Role Summary:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Legal Counsel to join our team. This role will act as a generalist, providing legal support across multiple commercial areas of the business, with a special focus on sales and export, real estate and commercial leasing, operations, and liquor licensing law.

This role reports to the General Counsel & Corporate Secretary. This role is an in-person role based in the company’s offices in Mississauga, Ontario.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsible for contract negotiation, drafting and review across various areas of the business, including but not limited to real estate and commercial leasing, procurement, operations, supply chain, sales, export, transportation, corporate, finance, and a range of other agreements.

Responsible for expertise in and ensuring compliance with laws, regulations and policies relating to liquor licensing, real estate and commercial leasing, transportation, municipal law, importation and export of goods, supply chain, and providing legal advice and research on same.  May support related litigation matters.Responsible for coordinating with external counsel on specific assignments, reviewing preliminary advice and providing internal recommendations.

Provide advice and training on legal compliance of product and business operations, which may include but are not limited to: liquor regulation (AGCO and other Canadian provinces), real estate and commercial leasing, transportation, municipal law, supply chain, corporate compliance requirements in relevant Canadian provinces, and other legal matters as needed.

Develop and review standard form agreements, review processes and develop automations; providing legal reporting, resources and drafting policies.

What You Bring:

Law Degree (J.D. or LL.B.) from an accredited law school
Called to the Bar of Ontario
1-3 years experience in the legal department of a large company or a top tier law firm
Experience practicing corporate commercial law, real estate and commercial leasing law, and/or supply chain and procurement matters, and drafting and reviewing contracts
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Additional Skills (Not Required, Considered Assets):

Called to the bar or educated in laws of British Columbia and/or Quebec
Working knowledge of French (written and/or spoken)
Previous experience advising in industries regulated by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario

Compensation: Budgeted Range – $114,246.00 – $147,848.00

The budgeted range takes into account several factors and qualifications that are considered in making compensation decisions including experience, education, training, licenses, certifications, and other business and organizational requirements. Base pay is only one component of the total rewards offering at Arterra.
