Corporate Counsel, Part-Time (8 to 12 hours per week).
Remote, with occasional in-person meetings. Toronto-based.

The Role
The Corporate Counsel will be responsible for day-to-day legal advice/support in the fields of law critical to Contract management (customer, supplier) and Privacy legislation. The ideal candidate will be able to provide practical, business-minded advice that assists WhoPlusYou in accomplishing
its objectives while managing legal risk.


The Corporate Counsel reports to the Chief Operating Officer.
This can be structured as an employment relationship or as a client to your legal practice.


Key Responsibilities:
● Revise, draft, interpret and negotiate the company’s contracts (customer, supplier, employee) and various contract clauses, as well as other legal documents.
● Provide legal advice in all relevant legal fields, such as commercial law, corporate law, competition law, regulatory law, intellectual property, and protection of personal information
and privacy.
● Ensure that the company's everyday activities comply with the applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and company policies.
● Assist the Privacy Officer concerning the interpretation and application of federal and provincial legislation relating to the collection, use, disclosure and retention of personal information
● Provide legal advice and assistance with requests for proposals and bids, including federal, provincial and local bids.
Required Skills:
● Proactive, problem-solving approach. Ability to think both strategically and critically, and
give practical advice, appropriately identifying and weighing legal and business objectives.
● Strong work ethic with the willingness to take on tasks as needed with respect to a variety of legal issues. Enthusiasm for taking initiative.
●Excellent writing, analytical, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact and gain credibility with stakeholders within and outside the organization.
● A high degree of professionalism, discretion, and business judgment.
● Comfortable in a high performance and fast-paced organization requiring strong collaborative work.


Required Experience/Education:
● Qualified to practice law in Canada, preferably in Ontario
● 10 years of law experience in private practice and/or as in-house counsel.
● Minimum of 5 years of experience within the software Industry


Languages:
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
● French communications skills are considered an asset.

●Toronto, ON (100% virtual with occasional in-person meetings)
