We are looking for a dynamic, creative, and forward-thinking leader who wants to make an impact on our organization and community as Assistant Town Solicitor (Construction and Procurement)! With a focus on construction and procurement law, dispute resolution, and environmental legislation and regulations, you will provide legal advice, research, and recommendations, and provide advocacy to advance the Town’s, affiliated organizations and local boards’ interests in realization of the Town of Innisfil’s Strategic Plan 2030.

As a member of our Legal & Clerks Services Leadership Team, the Assistant Town Solicitor (Construction and Procurement) will be responsible for supporting legal activities, assisting in providing leadership to the law clerk team and retaining and overseeing external legal counsel, as well as:

  • Providing professional legal counsel, advice, opinions and recommendations to Council/Committees, Directors, and Town departmental staff on the diverse and broad range of issues affecting the municipality in collaboration with the Manager of Legal and Clerks Services and the Assistant Town Solicitor
  • Consulting with and advising senior departmental staff on a broad range of matters; participating in the development of corporate policies and directions; providing status and progress updates on related matters.
  • Preparing and updating of Town procurement documents based on current legislation, case law, and best practices, reviewing current construction legislation and standards, policies, risks, contractual interpretation, project disputes and defending construction claims including lien claims

The preferred candidate holds:

  • A university degree in Law (L.L.B or J.D.).
  • Licensed to practice as a Lawyer by the Law Society of Upper Canada.
  • Five (5) years’ experience as a lawyer, including representing municipal client experience. Supervisory experience would be an asset.
  • Experience before Ontario courts and tribunals with respect to administrative law appeals, judicial reviews and by-law enforcement would be an asset.
  • A valid Class "G" driver's licence in good standing and reliable vehicle to use on corporate business.
  • Requirement to accommodate deadlines, peak period workloads and urgent situations that will extend beyond the normal workday, and availability to attend evening and/or weekend meetings or other events as required.

Closing date is October 22, 2024.

The salary range for this position is $112,797 - $143,962 per annum (Based on a 35-hour week) and the successful candidate will be compensated within this range.
