TORONTO – The Ontario Bar Association is launching a “handbag drive” in support of Dress for Success Toronto, an organization aimed at empowering women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and development tools to help them thrive in their work and their life.
In honour of International Women’s Day, throughout the month of March, the OBA will provide a drop-off box inside its Members Lounge in the OBA Conference Centre located at 20 Toronto St.
This initiative is being spearheaded by the OBA’s Women Lawyer’s Forum, which is free to join for all OBA members. It is just one example of how the OBA brings the profession together to do what lawyers do best – find practical and productive ways to create a society that is rooted in equality.
Handbags are currently Dress for Success Toronto’s most needed item. All OBA members are invited to donate clean, ready-to-use, work appropriate handbags, briefcases or portfolios that will go to women who are currently trying to re-enter the workforce. Although the focus is on donations for women, men's briefcases will also be accepted as donations.
Personalized notes of encouragement included in the handbags are also encouraged, and stationery will be made available in the Members Lounge.
