The culmination of a year’s worth of efforts to advance gender equality in the legal profession, the OBA’s Momentum Summit will bring together leaders from across sectors and across the globe on September 10 in Toronto to spearhead applicable and sustainable solutions for putting equality into practice.
“In my travels throughout Canada during the past year, I’ve talked with countless members of the legal community who have not only shared with me their experiences of gender-based exclusion or unfair treatment, but who have envisioned ways to break the barriers and dispel the biases that gave rise to them,” commented OBA President Lynne Vicars. “The Momentum Summit is where these progressive ideas, along with those of celebrated champions of equality, will converge as collective action.”
The day-long Summit will feature expert insights from diversity trailblazers – from at home and abroad – that offer context for the inequality that continues to plague professions like the law and, importantly, concrete methods to successfully address its root causes.
Members of the OBA have been ardent, vocal advocates for more flexible, inclusive and engaging legal spaces that allow lawyers of all backgrounds equal opportunity to contribute and reap the professional rewards. This Momentum Summit invites them to carry that commitment forward by exploring and adopting in their own practices initiatives that have significantly leveled the playing field within other organizations.
“As I’ve said many times, when it comes to advancing equality in the legal profession, we all have a role to play – and we can all be effective agents of change in our workplaces,” said Vicars. “The Summit will give lawyers the tools we need to transform our natural aptitude for problem-solving into meaningful momentum that will not only create immediate impact but continue to foster a more equitable, diverse and inclusive profession far into the future.”
For those eager to be part of the solution, the Momentum Summit is not to be missed. Space is limited, so register early.
