Attorney General John Gerretsen reiterated Wednesday outside cabinet he has only just received the Ontario Bar Association's report obtained by QP Briefing[1] on the need for firmer guidelines for judicial mediation in the province.
"I have just received the report and I have not read it just yet," Gerretsen said in an interview, indicating he had only seen the report minutes before arriving at cabinet.
"I know that mediation is a much larger part of the whole judicial process now because generally speaking it leads, in many cases, to faster results and is less costly a result than the court process," he said.
Asked if the province needs to take a closer look at how judges are used in difficult to mediate cases, Gerretsen replied "I'll take a look at the report and we will deal with the issues that are contained therein. That's all I can say."
