Biography
Mr. Payne is a Certified Civil Litigation Specialist, as designated by the Law Society of Ontario. He is the Senior Managing Lawyer of the Payne Law firm, a civil litigation boutique. He has over 18 years of trial and appeal experience.
Mr. Payne has been lead counsel in hundreds of trials, tribunal hearings, and appeals including widely-reported and oft-cited decisions. He has represented clients in commercial disputes, contentious estate litigation, tax disputes, defamation actions, wrongful and constructive dismissal matters, and complex appeal proceedings, among others.
Mr. Payne was recently a speaker a Canadian Bar Association and Ontario Bar Association presentation on tax litigation and employment law developments in the Covid-19 era.
Mr. Payne has been appointed by the Superior Court of Ontario as Independent Supervising Counsel and has advised and represented a broad range of clients. He has been assigned to mediate and arbitrate a large range of contentious disputes.
