Biography
TJ is a Partner in TELUS Health’s Retirement and Benefit Solutions group and the
Practice Leader for the company’s Regulatory and Governance, Legal and
Compliance Consulting Practices. He is a
licensed and practicing lawyer; he was admitted to the Ontario Bar in Canada in
2001. TJ has been with the company for over 18 years, and prior to that, worked
for four years as an associate lawyer at an international human resources
consulting firm, and 1.5 years as an associate lawyer with a litigation firm.
He graduated with a Juris Doctor from Osgoode Hall Law School and a Master of
Business Administration from the Schulich School of Business in 1999.
TJ is responsible for advising the firm’s
professionals and clients, both national and international, on pension and
benefits plans, including design and documentation, regulatory compliance, wind
ups, governance, mergers and acquisitions and related due diligence, surplus
withdrawals and taxation. He also has extensive leadership experience in the
area of insolvency related wind ups and deferred settlements as well as
associated pension litigation.
TJ is a well-recognized expert in pension governance.
He is a faculty member for the Osgoode Hall Law School Certificate in Pension
Law teaching on governance and risk management. He is a regular speaker and
presenter at professional workshops, industry and regulatory conferences
internationally. TJ is a contributing author to the Handbook of Canadian
Pension and Benefit Plans; he has specifically contributed to the chapters on
pension and benefit plan governance, multi-employer pension plans and plan wind
ups.
TJ is a member of the Financial Services Regulatory
Authority (Ontario) Standing Technical Advisory Committee for DB Single
Employer Pension Plans.
