Biography

Claire Wilkinson is a Bencher candidate for Central West. She has been practicing at a small firm in Burlington, Martin & Hillyer Associates, since her call to the bar in 1995. Claire specializes in personal injury and insurance litigation. A large percentage of Claire's practice is dedicated to assisting survivors of sexual abuse. Claire also represents persons seriously injured by motor vehicle collisions, product liability, slip and falls, medical malpractice, and other areas of personal injury litigation. Claire is the immediate Past President of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association (OTLA), and is a Past President of the Halton County Law Association. She also sits on the board of the Mind Forward Brain Injury Services, and is an Ontario Governor for the American Association for Justice. Claire is a member of the the Advocates Society, the Ontario Bar Association, the Women’s Law Association of Ontario, the Halton County Law Association, the Peel Law Association, and the Hamilton Law Association. Claire is also a member of the United Way legal committee for Hamilton and Burlington. Claire is a frequent lecturer for OTLA and the Hamilton Law Association, and has also lectured for the Canadian Institute, the Halton County Law Association, Queen's University, The Advocates Society, Canadian Defence Lawyers, the Ontario Bar Association, and numerous other groups. In 2012 Claire received the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association Distinguished Service Award. Claire was instrumental in initiating and developing the Martin & Hillyer annual bowl-a-thon which ran for over 20 years supporting multiple local charities. Claire plays hockey, and is the proud mother of two sons, a daughter, and three… yes you read that correctly…. border collies.
