Biography

John M. Rosen has practiced Criminal Law for over 47 years, representing a wide variety of clients, both individuals and corporations, in serious and complex criminal, quasi-criminal and professional discipline cases. He has appeared in all levels of court in Ontario and the Supreme Court of Canada. He has also appeared as counsel in the British Columbia Supreme Court and Court of Appeal, the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal, the United States Federal Court (in New York City, Buffalo, N.Y. and Harrisburg, Pa.) and the Grand Court of the Cayman Islands. John is a recipient of the Law Society Medal, and is a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers. He is a long-standing member of the Criminal Lawyers Association and for many years served as its Treasurer and later as a Vice-President. He also has lengthy affiliations with the National Association of Criminal Defence Lawyers (U.S.), the Advocates’ Society (Canada) and the Canadian and American Bar Associations. Throughout his career, John has been actively involved in Continuing Legal Education and has appeared as a guest lecturer, presenter, speaker and panelist for numerous legal and non-legal organizations, associations and law schools in Canada and the United States. He currently leads a free private seminar on cross-examination for young lawyers, and mentors another group of young lawyers practicing in the Greater Toronto Area. John M. Rosen received an LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1968, was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1970. In 2017 he received the Osgoode Hall Alumni Gold Key Award for Achievement.
