Biography
John (he/him) founded McIntyre Szabo PC, after working as a senior associate in a leading health law group at one of the largest law firms in Canada. Before this, John served as a judicial law clerk at the Court of Appeal for Ontario, with Justices MacPherson, Pepall, Benotto and Miller.John routinely represents and advises clients in the health care sector, including hospitals, public health units and healthcare practitioners. His practice focuses on professional regulation and discipline (including College complaints and investigations), medical staff credentialing, mental health law, appellate advocacy, civil litigation (including medical malpractice suits), as well as general legal, operational and risk advice. He also provides both external counsel and secondment support to hospitals as needed. He has acted as counsel at all levels of court in Ontario, the Supreme Court of Canada and various tribunals. In 2021 and 2022, he was recognized as “One to Watch” in Health Care Law by the Best Lawyers in Canada.John provides a holistic perspective to health law with a deep understanding of the industry. In 2022, he completed his Master Degree in Public Health at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, where he is concentrated in Health Leadership and Management with a Certificate in LGBTQ Public Health. While at Johns Hopkins, John worked as a Patient Safety and Quality Consultant for Johns Hopkins Health System, co-authored a proposal for federal funding of a prophylactic (PrEP) to help end the HIV epidemic in the United States and contributed as a reviewer and author to the Journal of Patient Safety and Risk Management. John then spent several months as an Administrative Fellow at Northwestern Medicine in Chicago, Illinois, where he both shadowed and worked with Executive Leadership on initiatives across the health system.
