Biography
Leonard Finegold practises exclusively in the area of construction law for more than 35 years, representing the interests of owners, mortgagees, developers, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, architects and engineers. His areas of expertise include construction liens, contract development and negotiation, breach of trust claims, delay claims, occupational health and safety issues, mediation, arbitration and litigation.
A former Director of Legal & Labour Relations for Ellis-Don Construction Ltd. and Executive Legal Counsel to a large mining redevelopment company, Leonard brings unique and particularly valuable insights to construction-related matters and often acts as a sounding board to senior construction executives.
His broad experience in the private sector also includes such roles as former in-house counsel to a major mechanical/electrical subcontractor and former counsel to a large multinational mining company in which Leonard navigated the complex legalities associated with the construction and development of a large-scale mining project in northern Ontario.
His career as a lawyer in public practice is equally extensive. Leonard was a partner in the Construction Law Group of Goodman and Carr for nine years prior to joining Goldman Sloan Nash & Haber LLP in 2000.
Leonard is a Founding Fellow of the Canadian College of Construction Lawyers and is a former co-chairman of the General Contractors Section of the Toronto Construction Association. He is a frequent speaker and noted author on construction law issues for industry and legal professionals.
