Equality Committee
The Committee was established in September 1992 and has a mandate to examine the impact of race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, citizenship, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, marital status, family status or disability on the OBA's by-laws, electoral processes, policies, submissions, and activities. Further responsibilities include to identify the incidence of inequality of opportunity in the legal profession in Ontario based on the above-noted grounds and recommend methods to eliminate said inequalities. Finally, the Committee was charged to examine and recommend upon the ability of the legal institutions in Ontario to serve the needs of historically disadvantaged equity seeking groups, such as those identified by race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, citizenship, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, marital status, family status or disability.
