The OBA's Privacy and Access to Information Law Section is pleased to announce Molly Reynolds, Torys LLP, as the recipient of the 2024 OBA Karen Spector Memorial Award for Excellence in Privacy Law.

Molly Reynolds will be honoured at the Privacy Law Summit on October 1, 2024 at the OBA Conference Centre in Toronto.

Criteria for Selection

This Award recognizes exceptional contributions and achievements by an Ontario Bar Association member in the area of privacy law, including some or all of the following:

(a) outstanding legal contributions to the practice of privacy law;

(b) outstanding contributions in the development of privacy law through scholarly and other writing and through public speaking on privacy issues;

(c) outstanding organizational contributions in the private sector, in government and/or in the Ontario Bar Association in relation to privacy law matters;

(d) outstanding mentorship contributions to other lawyers through personally sharing knowledge, experience and skills; and/or

(e) other exemplary achievements in the area of privacy law. 

The Award is available only to individuals, not law offices or other organizations or groups. The current Chair of the Section and the current members of the Privacy and Access to Information Law section executive are not eligible for nomination. ​

Eligibility

This Award is open to any Ontario Bar Association member who has made contributions in the area of privacy law, whether in the private or public sectors.

Nomination Procedure

A nomination requires the signature of one OBA member in good standing. To assist the Nomination Committee, each nomination shall be accompanied by a one or two page summary of the reasons for the nomination, as well as a copy of the nominee’s current CV.

The nominee must be advised by the nominator that his or her name has been put forward for this award prior to the nomination deadline.

Selection Process

The Nomination Committee will review the nominations and select an award recipient.

The Nomination Committee shall consider OBA policies, rules and guidelines on Diversity and Inclusion when selecting the winner of the Award.

Award Presentation

A plaque is presented to the recipient. The 2024 award will be presented at the Privacy Law Summit on October 1, 2024, at the OBA Conference Centre. Please save the date and stay tuned for more details.
