Fellow members of the OBA Taxation Law Section:
As the new OBA term commences, your Section’s Executive has been hard at work organizing learning, advocacy, and networking activities to support your practice. A continuing initiative has been liaising with the Law Society of Upper Canada to request the creation of a Tax Law Area of Specialization for the LSUC’s Certified Specialist Program.
Among the potential benefits of such a designation are that clients will be able to easily identify tax lawyers with sufficient expertise to address their legal needs, Ontario's tax lawyers will have an opportunity to access a professional designation similar to that found in other jurisdictions, and the program will provide a valuable roadmap for junior lawyers seeking to develop their careers in tax law.
To supplement the application, the LSUC requires the submission of letters of support from members of the bar. Attached is a template letter www.oba.org/CBAMediaLibrary/cba_on/pdf/TAX/LSUCCertifiedSpecialistProgram_Letter.doc in support of the application. We ask that you please review the template, make such revisions as you feel appropriate, and return a signed copy of your letter of support to taxsection@oba.org by September 23, 2016. If you have any questions concerning the application, they may be sent to the same email address.
Thank you for your support, and we look forward to the 2016-2017 OBA term.
