Evictions During the Pandemic in Toronto

Despite evictions moratoria and the earlier suspension of LTB proceedings, observers have noted a sharp rise of homelessness and the proliferation of encampments in parks since the pandemic began. This article outlines some of the changes and issues that Bill 184 has had on the eviction process at the LTB, and in particular, the effect it has had on racialized and marginalized communities in the City of Toronto.

On May 6, 2021, the Ontario government enacted Ontario Regulation 335/21 , amending Regulation 182 of R.R.O. 1990 (the general regulations of the Corporations Information Act (Ontario). This article provides a summary of the impacts of the amending regulation on Ontario corporations, foreign business corporations and Ontario charities with respect to the filing of corporate annual returns.

Carillion, the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act and Construction Lien Act Trusts: Confusion (again) regarding certainty of subject matter and commingling of funds

The Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act proceedings involving Carillion Canada and related entities have been an ongoing area of interest for the construction industry since proceedings began in early 2018. Recently, Ernst & Young, (in its capacity as Monitor of Carillion Canada in the CCAA proceeding), brought a motion seeking a declaration that certain funds received in relation to various construction projects were deemed statutory trust funds pursuant to the Construction Lien Act.
