Name: Carrie Wright
Firm/Organization: BARTLAW LLP | Canadian Immigration
OBA Executive Title: Newsletter Editor
Primary Area(s) of Immigration Practice: Primarily corporate immigration, employer compliance issues and Federal Court applications
Brief Biography: I am a partner at BARTLAW LLP. Before attending the University of Western Ontario’s law school, I completed an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Canadian Studies at Wilfrid Laurier University. After law school, I moved to Ottawa and clerked at the Federal Court for two years before returning to Toronto and joining BARTLAW in August 2011.
Since joining BARTLAW, I have practiced exclusively in the area of Canadian immigration and citizenship law. I have assisted both corporate and individual clients on work permit applications, labour market impact assessments, and employer compliance issues and reviews. I am experienced and knowledgeable in Canadian immigration law relating to permanent resident cards, citizenship, humanitarian and compassionate applications, and refugee applications.
Motivation for Joining the OBA Executive: I believe it is important for every lawyer, immigration practitioner or otherwise, to participate in initiatives related to their practice outside of the office. I have always enjoyed writing, and working on the executive as newsletter editor to assist in bringing relevant and important content to the immigration bar was an excellent opportunity to use my passion in a meaningful way, to do what I can to contribute to the success of our bar at large. It has been a great experience to connect with other members of the executive and get to know them and their practice.
