We are seeking an experienced Family Law Associate (2-3 years of experience) to join our growing team. At this time, this role will be 100% virtual, offering you independence and work/life balance.
As our firm experiences’ exponential growth, we are seeking an Associate that is able to carry their own files with a large degree of independence, possess an entrepreneurial spirit and a proven success in building positive client relationships
In this role, your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
- Representing clients in proceedings, drafting legal documents and advising clients on family law matters
- Drafting applications, answers, replies, legal memos, facta and other court documents
- Preparing for and attending conferences
- Represent clients in negotiations, mediation, mediation/arbitration, collaborative law processes and court appearances
- Prepare for and attend conferences, motions, trials, and ADR processes.
To be successful in this role, you possess:
- Minimum of 2 years of family law experience including family litigation and negotiated settlements
- LL.B. or J.D. with a license to practise law in Ontario
- Membership in good standing with the Law Society
- In-depth knowledge of Family Law Rules
- Excellent knowledge of Divorcemate
- Experience and/or training in collaborative practice or mediation/arbitration would be an asset
- Excellent drafting skills
- Strong attention to detail, analysis and problem solving skills
- Ability to build rapport with clients, respond with empathy and practical advice
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Able to work collaboratively in a small team, as well as independently
