Complex Claims Director, Financial Lines Department, AIG Insurance Company of Canada. Hybrid position. Toronto or Montreal.
AIG Insurance Company of Canada is looking for a lawyer with 5+ years of commercial litigation experience to join its Financial Lines Claims Team. You will be involved in overseeing some of Canada’s largest and most complex litigation files while also maintaining a true work-life balance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Managing a wide array of commercial litigation claims including securities class actions, professional liability claims, shareholder actions, employment disputes, and other liability risks insured by AIG.
- Overseeing the resolution of complex first-party claims such as cyber breach incidents and fraud/crime losses.
- Analyzing coverage under specialized insurance contracts for directors & officers liability (D&O), errors & omissions/professional liability (E&O), employment practices liability (EPL), fidelity bonds, pension management liability, cybersecurity, M&A, and kidnap/ransom/extortion coverage (KRE).
- Assessing the risks of exposure on complex claims, managing financial reserves, and reporting large potential losses to senior management.
- Monitoring external counsel, ensuring compliance with AIG’s guidelines, collaborating on litigation strategy, and directing claims towards a fair and reasonable resolution.
- Providing guidance to insurance underwriters with respect to emerging risks and claim trends.
- Providing quality claims service to clients and broker partners.
Position Requirements:
- Strong written and oral communicator
- Lawyer with 5+ years of experience in commercial or insurance litigation; alternatively, substantial experience in complex claims/litigation management roles
- Ability to work independently and make well reasoned decisions
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multi-task and work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment
- Proficient computer skills in a paperless environment
