Upcoming Divorce Act Changes

As of March 1, 2021, both the Divorce Act and the Children’s Law Reform Act will be amended to include significant changes to divorce, separation and parenting. The changes to the Divorce Act include amendments to the Central Registry of Divorce Proceedings regulation under that act.

Ontario Court of Justice Judicial Appointment (East Region)

SCJ (East Region): Expansion of DRO Program

The MAG has announced that the Dispute Resolution Officer ("DRO") Program will be expanded to the Kingston area. DROs are senior family lawyers who are appointed to conduct family law case conferences and who often deal with motions to change child/spousal support orders. Federal Court Appointment of Darlene Carreau

The Hon. David Lametti, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, announced that Darlene Carreau has been appointed the Chief Administrator of the Courts Administration Service (“CAS”). Ms. Carreau has served as the Director General and Senior General Counsel at the Department of Justice Canada. She will hold office for a term of five years as the Chief Administrator of the CAS.
