This spring, the Insurance Law Section of the Ontario Bar Association will present its 11th Annual Award for Excellence in Insurance Law.
The recipients of the OBA Award for Excellence in Insurance Law this year are John A. McLeish of McLeish Orlando LLP from Toronto and Wilfrid Menninga of Templeman Menninga LLP in Kingston. Members of the Award Committee included Justice Michael Tulloch of the Ontario Court of Appeal, and Superior Court Justices Robert Beaudoin and Darla Wilson.
“John and Wilfrid are recognized giants in advocacy, mentorship, and their contribution to the development of the law. Both have blazed trails in their area of practice: John in the area of personal injury law, and Wilfrid, in the area of insurance defence and civil litigation,” says Audrey Ramsay, OBA Insurance Law Section Chair. “Both have left their mark on the law and the profession and continue to do so.”
The Award for Excellence in Insurance Law was created to recognize outstanding members of the OBA for their exceptional achievements, distinguished service, and contributions in the following areas:
- The development of insurance law through advocacy, teaching, writing or legislative reform
- Leadership in the profession and particularly of lawyers practising insurance law
- Maintaining the highest standards of professional competence as well as the highest levels of honesty, integrity and civility
- Enhancement of the profession of law and the well being of the community
Wilfrid Menninga will be presented with his award on May 12 at the Cataraqui Golf & Country Club, Kingston, and John McLeish will be presented with his award on May 26 at the Toronto Marriott Downtown Eaton Centre Hotel. For ticket information, visit www.oba.org/insuranceaward.
