Every November 20, advocates for children and children's rights mark World Children's Day and, in Canada, National Child Day. It marks the anniversary of the date that the United Nations General Assembly adopted both the Declaration (in 1959) and the Convention (in 1989) on children's rights.
Organizations across Canada organize events on and around National Child Day. For example,
- The International and Canadian Child Rights Partnership is offering up a full week of panels and discussions from November 18 to 22.
- The team at UNICEF Canada is organizing a Youth Advocacy Summit.
- National charity Children First Canada has digital programming lined up all day for children and youth of all ages.
If you are in Ottawa, keep an eye out for details on events organized by Interdisciplinary Research Laboratory on the Rights of the Child and the Landon Pearson Resource Centre for the Study of Childhood and Children’s Rights.
If you’re looking for relevant CPD, you can register for the OBA Education Law section’s program on November 21 titled Advanced Human Rights Issues in Education.
