Michelle Wen Xiao Kang
Biography
Michelle Wen Xiao Kang is a lawyer at Yang Wang Law Professional Corporation, specializing in estate planning, litigation, and elder law. She is a designated Trust & Estate Practitioner (TEP) by the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP). Michelle’s planning practice includes drafting wills, trusts, powers of attorney and advising clients on overall succession planning objectives. Her litigation practice include will challenges, dependant’s support claims, powers of attorney challenges, passing of accounts and guardianship applications. Michelle is a native Mandarin speaker and services the community both locally and abroad with her expertise in Ontario estates law. Outside of work, Michelle co-founded a local non-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting traditional arts and music in the community. She also serves on the board of a national non-for-profit organization focused on mental health awareness and elder abuse prevention in immigrant communities, including support for international students and visiting seniors.
Kathleen Louise Robichaud
Biography
Kathleen Robichaud is a sole practitioner practicing in Manotick, Ontario. Her practice is a solicitors practice meaning she works in the areas of Real Estate Law - both commercial and residential; Wills and Estates - including Estate Planning and she also practices Business Law including Incorporations; Partnerships; Buying and Selling a Business and Succession arrangements for businesses and business owners. She was called to the Ontario bar in 1999. Kathleen is an active member and volunteer with the Ontario Bar Association as well as the Canadian Bar Association. She has been working to help the Associations do better at providing programming and services that meets the needs of sole and small firm business lawyers and the kinds of clients and transactions they work with. Kathleen has worked primarily as a sole practitioner throughout her years of practice. Kathleen organizes, moderates and co-chairs Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programs for lawyers regularly and has done so for several years. She has been a previous speaker at Law Society CPD programs as well. She is a member of the County of Carleton Law (CCLA) Association and an active volunteer with the CCLA as well including acting as co-chair of the organizing Committee for the East Region Solicitors Conference.
Melissa Elmaleh
Biography
Melissa is a lawyer at Kimel Law Group practicing in estate, trust, and capacity litigation. She holds a Juris Doctor degree from Osgoode Hall Law School with a specialization in Litigation, Dispute Resolution, and the Administration of Justice. She was a recipient of Osgoode’s Legal and Literary Society’s Graduating Student Award for Exceptional Leadership. Melissa is a lead member of the Teaching Team for the Lawyer as Negotiator course at Osgoode Hall Law School. She serves as a Public Affairs Liaison for the Ontario Bar Association’s Trusts and Estates executive, and is also a member of the Canadian Bar Association’s Wills, Estates, and Trusts executive. She co-chairs the Medico-Legal Society of Toronto’s Young Practitioners Committee and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Advocacy Centre for the Elderly. Melissa is also a Coach for the Law Society of Ontario's Coach and Advisor Network, and serves on committees including the Baycrest Foundation’s Professional Advisory Committee, and STEP Toronto’s Membership Committee. Melissa holds a Master of Arts from York University, and an Honors Specialization Bachelor of Arts from Western University.
Tristen Audet
Biography
Tristen is a Partner at KMB Law in the Business & Estate Succession Group. Tristen has extensive experience in estate planning, including trust planning for high-net-worth clients and for beneficiaries with special needs requiring customized trust plans, as well as complex estate administration, including matters requiring vesting orders, passing of accounts, and multi-jurisdictional estates. In the early part of her legal career, she practiced in general litigation which serves her well when it comes to advising clients on complex estate matters. Tristen received her Juris Doctor from the University of Winsor and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2016. When not in the office, Tristen is often gardening, painting with her daughter, or crocheting Pride-coloured blankets. In addition to her work with the Ontario Bar Association, she is also a volunteer Lawyer with Pro-Bono Ontario via The 519 Legal Clinic, Toronto.
