Amendments to Rules of Civil Procedure (O. Reg. 275/26)

On August 12, 2026, Ontario Regulation 275/26 was filed to amend the Rules of Civil Procedure to require parties and expert witnesses to certify the accuracy of quotations used in their factums and expert reports, respectively, and to update or clarify various appeal procedures.

TABIA Joins OBA Pro Bono Portal:  On July 29, the OBA welcomed the Toronto Association of Business Improvement Areas (TABIA) to our Pro Bono Portal to “connect the rising entrepreneurs behind emerging small businesses with pivotal pro bono legal support”. The initiative will provide lawyers with volunteer opportunities aligned with their practice areas, interests and availability.

New Regional Senior Justice:  Justice Marlyse Dumel has been appointed as a new regional senior justice to the Ontario Court of Justice in the East Region, effective September 25, 2026. In March 2017, Justice Dumel was appointed to the OCJ, presiding in Ottawa in both English and French. Between 2022 and 2026, she was the local administrative judge.
