Recognizing Excellence in Advocacy for Children and their Rights

October 24, 2025 | Jean-Frédéric Hübsch

Each year, many of the Ontario Bar Association’s sections recognize those members who have made exceptional contributions to their areas of practice. This year, two longtime contributors to the Child and Youth Law Section are being recognized by their colleagues for their various accomplishments.

On October 8, 2025, Cheryl Milne was awarded the OBA Award of Excellence in Constitutional, Civil Liberties and Human Rights Law. Cheryl is a founding member of both the Ontario and national Child and Youth Law sections, and remains an ardent advocate for everyone’s human rights in role as Executive Director of the Asper Centre for Constitutional Rights.

On November 20, 2025, Mary Birdsell will be receiving the inaugural OBA Award of Excellence in Child and Youth Law at a reception in her honour. Mary is also a founding member of the Child and Youth Law sections, and continues to advocate for children and youththrough her tireless work with Justice for Children and Youth.

Join us in a round of applause for Cheryl and for Mary!
