September 18, 2025

Legal community to pay tribute to esteemed recipients, past and present, at  a special anniversary and awards event on September 19

TORONTO, ON — Members of the legal community will come together on September 19, 2025, at the Ontario Bar Association (OBA) Conference Centre, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the OBA Award of Excellence in Insurance Law, presented annually to leaders of the insurance bar in honour of their outstanding achievements, distinguished service and contribution to their practice area and profession.

The evening will also recognize the award’s 2025 recipients: Troy Lehman, partner, Oatley Vigmond Personal Injury Lawyers LLP (Barrie), and Robin Moodie, founding partner, Moodie Mair Walker LLP (Toronto). Legal trailblazers and trusted advocates, these lawyers exemplify the highest standards of professional competence, as well as the highest levels of honesty, integrity and civility.

“We are proud to celebrate 20 years of this prestigious award, which continues to spotlight OBA members who inspire others through their exceptional career achievements, community service, and principled approach to practice,” said OBA President Katy Commisso, who also practices insurance law. “In that spirit, at this milestone event we recognize two titans of the insurance bar who are known as much for their integrity and generosity as their legal acuity and courtroom victories.”

“Not only is Troy an accomplished litigator, he is also a writer, an educator, and a mentor to all lawyers at the firm,” says James L. Vigmond, founding and managing partner at Oatley Vigmond. “Although Troy enjoys a reputation as a tenacious litigator, he practices with civility and humility – he is a lawyer’s lawyer, and the Award of Excellence is a fitting tribute to his accomplishments.”

Like Troy Lehman, Robin Moodie, a regular contributor to the OBA’s flagship Anatomy of a Trial, is generous with his time and expertise. “A past instructor for the Bar Admission Course and a lecturer on advocacy who regularly does in-house seminars at LawPro, Robin will always step up when asked to speak on a panel,” says Bronwyn Martin, managing partner at Moodie Mair Walker. “While he practices law with confidence, he does so without bravado or ego – I am very proud to work so closely with him.”

The OBA Award of Excellence in Insurance Law Celebration will feature personal tributes to the 2025 honorees and a champagne toast to all the award’s highly regarded recipients who are a credit to this pivotal practice area, to this profession, and to the OBA Community.
