What are you excited for as an executive member of the OBA Law Business Section?
As Vice-Chair of the Business Law Section, I am excited to help guide the Section’s strategic direction and support the execution of initiatives that strengthen the professional development and engagement of our members. I look forward to collaborating with the Executive to enhance the Section’s programming, promote thought leadership in emerging areas of business law, and ensure we continue to deliver meaningful value to both new and experienced practitioners.
What is the one thing you would like to see the OBA Business Law Section do this year?
One area that may be of particular interest to the Business Law Section this year is the growing intersection between Canadian corporate practice and offshore and cross‑border legal frameworks. As more transactions involve multi‑jurisdictional structuring, regulatory coordination, and cross‑border capital flows, there is increasing value in providing members with deeper insight into the considerations that arise when navigating offshore corporate environments.

In September 2025 I joined Appleby’s Bermuda Corporate practice. Most recently I am part of a team working on a definitive agreement to combine Transocean (NYSE: RIG) and Valaris (NYSE: VAL), under which Transocean will acquire Valaris in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately US$5.8 billion.

Where did you go to law school?
I received my Juris Doctor from the University of Ottawa.
What was the most helpful thing you learned in law school?
The most helpful lesson I learned in law school was the importance of resilience and consistent hard work. Corporate law demands strong analytical skills and strategic thinking, but law school taught me that these abilities are built over time through persistence, discipline, and a willingness to push through challenging moments. Whether it was navigating demanding coursework, balancing competing deadlines, or adapting to new environments during international exchanges, I learned that progress often comes from showing up fully, even when the path feels uncertain. That mindset has stayed with me and has been foundational in my development as a lawyer.
What is one piece of advice you wish someone had given you when you were still a student?
Soft skills are just as essential as technical legal knowledge. The ability to listen carefully, understand a client’s concerns, and build trust is fundamental to providing effective and tailored legal advice.
What is your go-to mental wellness activity?
For mental wellness, I rely on workouts to reset, reading non‑fiction books to refocus, and reality TV for those moments when I just need to switch off and laugh.
What is your go-to coffee order?
A black coffee.
