Description

The articling student will be mentored on a wide array of child welfare, family and criminal law files, with a strong focus on litigation, and building skills as a litigator. 

Frangione Garrett LLP acts as general child welfare litigation counsel to 17 First Nations across the Province. Our articling student will learn first-hand about relationship building, and working alongside with First Nations to achieve their child welfare goals. Client interviews, drafting court pleadings, drafting facta, research of highly novel legal issues [Charter challenges, etc.], disclosure review [child protection and criminal law cases], and court attendances will form part of the articling program. The candidate will also assist counsel with band representative training programs, legal clinics, community presentations and stakeholder engagement. Our candidate shall likewise observe and assist with trials.

Travel to remote satellite communities in and around northwestern and northeastern Ontario also form part of the articling program, particularly in the realm of criminal justice. Under supervision of counsel, summary conviction pre-trial and trial matters may be conducted toward the end of the articling term, including before various tribunals. 

Practice management, training in legal software and continuing professional development will be integrated into the articling experience. The candidate shall become practice-ready.
