I recently had the pleasure of meeting virtually with Jane Stewart, the current Chair of the Child and Youth Law Section of the Ontario Bar Association, for an interview. We discussed a range of topics, including her journey to becoming a clinic lawyer specializing in children’s and youth issues.
Jane’s fascination with the law and working in the public interest developed from a young age, as she watched reruns of Law and Order, and gained inspiration from her father’s work as a career civil servant. At university, she viewed the practice of law as a means of wrestling with foundational social issues.
