Biography
Lil maintains a broad civil litigation practice, with a particular passion for public and constitutional law, privacy, media and defamation, Aboriginal law and indigenous rights, and advocacy on behalf of survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. Prior to joining private practice, Lil served as a law clerk to the Honourable Madam Justice Karakatsanis of the Supreme Court of Canada. She completed her articles at the Ministry of the Attorney General – Constitutional Law Branch and summered at Parkdale Community Legal Services in the social assistance, health and gender-based violence division. In her pre-law life, Lil spent 12 years in Singapore before moving to Halifax to obtain a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of King’s College. She worked as a science journalist before applying to law school and has carried a passion for clear communication into her legal profession.Member-At-Large

Giovanna advises clients in all areas of employment and labour law. Working within both the private and public sectors, she provides strategic and practical advice to both unionized and non-unionized employers. Giovanna drafts and reviews employment contracts and policies, assists clients in responding to and managing discrimination claims and complex accommodations, and advises clients in their handling of workplace harassment complaints and investigations. She also assists unionized clients with the negotiation and administration of their collective agreements. Giovanna is a member of the Human Rights Committee of the Canadian Association of Counsel to Employers; a Member-at-Large of OBA SOGIC; and a former Public Affairs Liaison and Member-at-Large of the OBA's Constitutional, Civil Liberties and Human Rights Law Section.Member-At-Large

Maija Martin practises solely in the area of criminal defence at both the trial and appellate levels. She is a Toronto Director of the Criminal Lawyers’ Association. She is the Litigation Director for Women in Canadian Criminal Defence. She has spoken on panels regarding drug policy, the interaction between criminal and immigration law, and other criminal law issues. Prior to starting her practice, Ms. Martin completed a clerkship at the Ontario Superior Court of Justice where she learned about the inner workings of the justice system. She appears regularly before the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Nunavut Court of Appeal. She has appeared at the Supreme Court of Canada for both individuals and interveners.Member-At-Large

Tamara J. Sylvester (one/they/them) is a lawyer working in the Human Rights Services Office at Toronto Metropolitan University. In addition to education and consultation in the employment and post secondary context, one manages the investigation and resolution of complaints regarding discrimination (individual and systemic) and sexual violence. In an independent capacity, one consults on human rights issues at the grassroots level with a focus on the Black 2SLGBTQ+ community.
