Equality Effect Celebrates its 5th Anniversary!

Five years of effective and successful action - the Equality Effect has much to celebrate. Its Canadian lawyers working with lawyers in Kenya, won the court case to make Kenyan authorities take seriously and prosecute rape charges. WLF heard representatives of the group at one of our dinner programs a couple of years ago speak about the 160 Girls Campaign - it took 160 girls to come forward and lay complaints against the Kenyan authorities to get the ball rolling.

Navigating the World of Networking: Five Quick Tips for Women

Networking struggles are certainly not unique to women. Both men and women often feel unprepared to effectively network early on in their careers. Do women network differently than men? If not, should we? While we do not propose to provide definitive answers to these questions in this short article, we offer the following tips based on our experiences in an effort to help other women lawyers who may also be trying to learn to successfully network.

Women in the Legal Profession: How to be Successful

On October 29, 2015, a sell-out crowd filled the Lamont Learning Centre at Osgoode Hall to attend the CPD program “Women in the Legal Profession: How to be Successful”. This program was jointly held by the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Ontario Bar Association, and the Women’s Law Association of Ontario and was very well-attended both in person and online. It’s easy to see why- it was a very useful and stimulating program.

Events with WLF: Pathways to Power: Women in the Boardroom

On October 13, 2015, approximately 275 professional women came together to discuss the successes and challenges of women in the boardroom. This event was part of the Pathways to Power series, hosted by the Women Lawyers Forum and the Canadian Corporate Counsel Association, which celebrates the successful journeys of female lawyers into positions of power. The event consisted of a panel of successful women with a wealth of experience in the boardroom.
