On June 15th and 16th, the OBA will host its premier trial advocacy program, Anatomy of a Trial: The New Essentials.
Once again, Anatomy of a Trial will bring you an opportunity to immerse yourself in the courtroom experience and engage with live demonstrations of the dos and don’ts of effective trial advocacy. This master class on the practical, tactical and strategic considerations of a jury trial is a must-attend for anyone looking to hone their skills in the courtroom – from new lawyers to seasoned litigators.
Insights and Updates to Essential Skills
Attendees will learn in the OBA’s mock courtroom as a faculty of six presiding judges and over 30 litigators walk them through everything from effectively preparing for a trial and handling pre-trial motions and issues, to giving an effective opening statement and making impactful and resonant closing statements. Participants will also head back to the office with key advice on calling experts and navigating the testimony of participant experts and Form-53 expert witnesses.
New Strategies for Litigating in the Digital Age
Learn new strategies and updates to skills that are essential for today’s interconnected courtroom. To help litigators grapple with technical advancements and changes to the courtroom, our faculty will give tips and strategies for using tools like CaseLines, effectively managing electronic and paper documents, as well as examining and cross-examining live and virtual witnesses.
Engaging Demonstrations and Networking
Taking part in Anatomy of a Trial means that you’ll get to speak directly to experienced litigators as they demonstrate and review their strategies in the courtroom. The end of every session includes a commentary period where you can hear from the trial judge and the litigator, and each day concludes with a Q&A period.
Additionally, Anatomy of a Trial will have multiple opportunities for you to engage with fellow attendees during breaks and networking receptions. Discuss questions with our esteemed faculty and find connections with colleagues outside of your area of practice. Take this chance to make connections and find new business development opportunities while also earning all your Professionalism, EDI and Substantive PD hours for the entire year.
