1. What are your primary areas of immigration practice?
The majority of my practice is advising and representing clients on corporate immigration matters. In my role as legal counsel, I routinely assist clients with permanent residence applications, all types of work permit applications, business visas, criminal rehabilitation applications and temporary resident permits. A small percentage of my cases include citizenship applications and Federal Court matters.
2. What motivated you to join the OBA Citizenship & Immigration Law Section Executive?
My motivation to join was the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues to resolve issues to further our clients’ interests but also advocate for the immigration bar in general. Through the executive, we meaningfully engage with government stakeholders to raise concerns, come up with solutions and to bridge the gap between lawyers and the various governmental departments we routinely encounter, as part of our advocacy on behalf of our clients. I have had the opportunity to serve on the OBA Citizenship & Immigration Law Section Executive for the past six years and currently serve as one of the CPD Liaisons.
3. What do you enjoy most about practicing immigration law?
I love practicing corporate immigration because through my work, I find myself always learning about different industries. Corporations and non-profit organizations across an array of industries at some point may need immigration services. Whether they are transferring executives or hiring a ‘unicorn’ talent, it presents an opportunity to learn about their industry and work. Whether they are in the finance, energy, IT, or film & entertainment industry, every new file is opportunity to learn. It’s the challenge of helping them find global mobility solutions to their business needs that I enjoy.
