Advancing Gender Equality in the Legal Profession
When Lynne Vicars became the Ontario Bar Association’s 84th President (only the ninth female president), the world was in the midst of significant social movements that were starting a fresh new chapter on women’s rights and gender equality.
Movements such as #MeToo and #TimesUp were encouraging the kinds of conversations necessary to examine and challenge the social context and structures of our society. Noticing a broad willingness of across all genders to find productive ways to contribute to a society that centres on equality, Lynne decided that she could use her platform with the largest voluntary legal association in Ontario to help keep the momentum going. As a result, she has made advancing gender equality in the legal profession a core part of her mandate.
